Change of Ghilaf e Khanna Kaaba

Saudi Arabia, For the first time in history, the 1st Muharram al-Haram was changed to The Ghilaf e Khanna Kaaba.
In Saudi Arabia, a soulful ceremony was held for the changing of Ghilaf e Khanna Kaaba. This is the first time in the history of Saudi Arabia that the Ghilaf e Kaaba was changed on 1st Muharram.
Earlier, the Ghilaf e Kaaba was changed every year during Hajj after the pilgrims left for Arafat on the morning of 9th Dhu’l-Hajj.


The Ghilaf e Kaaba was replaced by a 200-man technical staff headed by The High Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman al-Saddis, head of the Koharmin Sharifeen administration. The new Ghilaf e Kaaba consists of four equal stripes and sattar al-bab.

About 670 kg of silk, 120 kg of gold and 100 kg of silver have been used in the preparation of the Ghilaf e Kaaba. The Ghilaf e Kaaba weights 850 kg.
The Kaaba which is called Kasawa is the most expensive cover in the world. The cost of manufacturing is $6.5 million.
